When you visit for the first time a full history will be taken, not only of the presenting complaint but also any previous medical history. It is possible that a previous accident or illness could influence the way you feel today. Examination consists of a series of gentle movements and special tests, during which your posture, the flexibility and strength of your muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints, your joint mobility, leg length and spinal curves are examined to determine the primary physical cause of your injury. If further investigations or X-rays are required your GP or insurance company will be consulted, this will only be done with your full co-operation at every stage. All patients are individual and therefore all treatments are different. Your individual diagnosis and treatment plan will be fully explained, you should feel free to ask questions at any time. Although it isn't possible within the constraints of this site to outline all the areas that osteopathy can treat, the most common problem is back pain. Osteopathy can also help with a wide variety of problems including changes to posture in pregnancy, repetitive strain injury, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, the pain of arthritis and sports injuries among many others. Regular osteopathy can not only get you mobile after a problem, it can work to keep you mobile - just like seeing the Dentist, check ups can prevent long term problems. Prevention is always better than cure. |
